WOW! Kiwanis Clubs and their members have opened their hearts and generously supported the New Beginning Campaign in an incredible way. Thank you so much!

Thanks to you, the Kiwanis International Foundation is only $100,000 away from the $750,000 goal established in the $1-for-$1 challenge set by Kiwanis International.

It is not too late to register your support! Gifts in all amounts will help KIF to secure the last $100,000 needed to succeed in this ambitious effort. Online Member Management Now Available

Clubs now have the option to add, edit and delete members online under Club Management within www.KiwanisOne.org (the member resource site). This is the same area used for online monthly and annual reporting.

This quick process puts your new member(s) immediately into the Kiwanis International database. Bonus – you can generate the invoice to send with payment.

To get started, sign in at www.KiwanisOne.org/login. Click the Member Management link on the default secretary dashboard or click the Member Management (KI) nav in the left-hand Secretary menu.

Div. 5 & 6 Make a Difference on Kiwanis One Day

Divisions 5 & 6 came together to make a big difference in our community today. Eight Clubs (Birmingham, Birmingham East, Vulcan, Chelsea, Homewood-Mountain Brook, Aktion Club of Greater Birmingham, Helena, and Metropolitan Birmingham) had volunteers come to the United Way Community Food Bank to help label and box four pallets of canned corn that was donated to the UWCFB. These cans are distributed to the partner agency that provide food to those in direct need in the community. Literally tons of service were provided.

The Food Bank operates as a central clearinghouse for collecting food that might otherwise be wasted. The Food Bank solicits and receives both new and commercially excess but fully edible food from many food industry sources such as manufacturers, distributors, warehouse and storage operations, grocery chains and individual donors. The Food Bank is also a member of America’s Second Harvest, a nationwide network of food banks, which solicits food in vast amounts and divides these goods among more than 200 food banks in the United States. This food is distributed to non-profit agencies and religious organizations that directly serve the needy through their own programs. These programs include shelters for the homeless, soup kitchens, residential facilities for the elderly and handicapped and shelters for abused women and children. Any charitable, non-profit agency meeting the criteria of the Internal Revenue Service as a 501 © (3) agency may apply to become an agency of the Food Bank. The agency must then agree to distribute the food to the public at no charge.

New Aktion Club to Be Chartered April 6th

The Kiwanis Club of Homewood-Mountain Brook is excited to sponsor the chartering of the second Aktion Club in the Greater Birmingham area. The Aktion Club of Horizons School will hold its official Chartering Ceremony tomorrow at The Horizons School, on Birmingham’s Southside.

In 2008 the Kiwanis Club of Homewood-Mountain Brook sponsored the chartering of the Aktion Club of Greater Birmingham at The Exceptional Foundation.

We are pleased to have all of these new members as a part of the Kiwanis Family!

The Horizons School offers a non-degree postsecondary program specifically designed to facilitate personal, social and career independence for students with mild learning disabilities and other mild handicapping conditions.

Aktion Club is a community-service group for adult citizens who live with a disability. The mission of Aktion Club is:

To provide adults living with disabilities an opportunity to develop initiative and leadership skills.
To serve their community.
To be integrated into society.
To demonstrate the dignity and value of citizens living with disabilities.

Aktion Club members strive to return to their communities the benefits, help, and caring they have received, as well as develop important skills in the process.
